Three key Elements
1. Ability and/or Intelligence
2. Preparation or conditioning
3. Luck
First, Ability and Intelligence are the main element to be successful and the supporting elements are preparation (other traits like hard work, and perseverance falls under preparation, agree?) and luck. In able to start and accomplish something you must have the abilities and knowledge to do so and everything else will just follow.
Example:
Lets say there are three students taking up an exam with I.Q. levels of 100, 110, and 120 respectively. Which of them likely to top the exam? The answer is the student with an I.Q. of 120.
Obviously, this means that people with higher abilities (in a certain field because it's not always applicable to all situations) have the advantage over those below them.
Preparedness is often not practiced, people (students, employees etc) tend to be reactive. Being prepared for something has a big impact to the result, when i say prepared is when you have done all the necessary things to accomplish your work or goal not! preparing yourself aimlessly wishing good things will happen and then be disappointed with the result. Being prepared or mentally and physically conditioned will back up or rather secure good results. Preparation needs proper resources and time.
Example:
Lets compare it to three students again taking up an exam but with same I.Q. levels this time with different preparation time of 7 months worth of review, 5 months worth of review, and 3 months worth of review respectively
Which of them likely to top the exam? The answer is the student with 7 months worth of review because considering their I.Q. levels to be similar the first student has the advantage as he had more time to review and with more time to review means he has more stocks of knowledge than the other two students.
Lastly but not the least is luck, Yes! you do have the brain and the resources & time to prepare but what if all the things you have done is not what you need or you missed that one important thing then everything will be a waste, you're good as dead. Luck plays a role to our daily life. No one can tell how much, when or where will luck falls to your hands but one thing is for sure it is better to try and try than to idle around doing nothing, luck will only come to those who are working for it not to those who are only waiting for it.
Example:
Three students with same I.Q. levels and preparations taking up an exam and assume that they have different luck of 30%, 20% and 10% luck. Take note that this is just a numerical representation of luck of a person. One example of this luck I'm saying is how about one of the students taking an exam have read that question or has an experience to that hence he can answer that problem without breaking a sweat, therefore he has the advantage.
Ability and/or Intelligence, Preparation or conditioning, and Luck are the three key elements to succeed in school, at work....and most of all anything you do in life. If you neglect any of these key elements you will surely lose big points, how can i say that? lets analyze it again;
Example:
The first student is very intelligent and he will take an exam but neglected his time to review but he had past experiences to the questions, we assume that he has more luck than the others and he barely passed the exam.
The second student also did not prepared and he's on equal terms with the first student so he's smart too, sadly he did not pass the exam, we can say that he just doesn't have much luck.
The third student is not very smart but he passionately and eagerly reviewed all their past lessons and luckily he had read almost all the questions included in the exam and he passed with a big margin.
Therefore these key elements are interconnected to each other and as i was saying that neglecting one will lose you a point.
We can calculate success rate mathematically:
Ability + Preparation + Luck = Success
with its percentile value (safest assumed, agree?)
Ability 50%
with its percentile value (safest assumed, agree?)
Ability 50%
Preparation 40%
Luck 10%
Total 100%
Even though luck is one of the key element but it has low percentile (i think 10% is too much but i still set it to 10% though), so do not depend on luck too much. that's all!
Luck 10%
Total 100%
Even though luck is one of the key element but it has low percentile (i think 10% is too much but i still set it to 10% though), so do not depend on luck too much. that's all!
Thanks for reading I hope we can apply this ideals in our lives ;)
